In order to effectively succeed in completing all of your tasks, it is important to learn how to manage time. Especially during finals, students become overwhelmed with many tests, projects, and assignments that are all seemingly due at once. Juggling these tasks can be stressful, and they can quickly lead to overwhelming feelings of stress and anxiety. We spoke with MISA seniors who shared their experiences and tips on how to effectively manage time while also balancing a social, work, and personal life. These tips will help alleviate stress, provide a starting point for learning how to complete assignments on time, and illustrate how to still leave time for fun.

MISA senior Jason Bach says:

“The pandemic helped a lot in terms of productivity, but when I was on campus I did a lot of socializing. Grabbing lunch or hanging out in the library goes a long way. While we may have more free time to focus on schoolwork, it’s important to make time to get out of the house! Doing work in public places like libraries or coffee shops can help alleviate the stress of being indoors.”

MISA senior Terri Lee shares:

“Honestly, I didn’t manage it well in the beginning. During my community college years, I was often in the library studying and made no time for myself or social interaction. However, after attending SJSU, I found it was important to take care of myself because this is the only mind, body, and life I have. Instead of balancing it, I would say it’s more like taking on what you can realistically do and what you can really do well. Take some time to get to know yourself and figure out your own limits on work while also considering time to rest, eat, and interact with friends and family.”

MISA’s VP of External Affairs Kishu Bhatnagar says:

“It’s essential to use a task & time management tool whether that is a planner, reminder list, or calendar. Doing so will allow you to plan not only weeks in advance but also down to each hour of your day. As much as it is important to stay focused on academics and career, everyone needs some time to maintain their social life and recharge. The work hard, play hard mentality really stuck with me throughout college. It’s all about the right balance.”

It is imperative to have good time management in order to successfully complete all of your tasks. Especially during finals season, simple time management tips can help make the process easier. Multitasking and self-reflection are important skills for effective time management. Doing multiple tasks at the same time can help free up time for a more daunting assignment. Self-reflection is important as it’s important for you to be honest with yourself on how much time you think it will take you to complete the task. Using planners and other tools can also help manage time. We hope you find these helpful tips from our seniors useful for your future!
